Updated On-Page SEO Strategies For Websites Today

By Rahmah Sajid

When building websites designed to rank well on the search engines, you must comply with certain aspects of SEO strategies to weigh the odds in your favor. It's unfortunate that many people do not understand the basic rules in regard to what the search engines expect when it comes to ranking your website, and your webpages, high in the listings.

Put your keyword in your permalinks: Set your links to post name. Make sure that your keywords are in the first three to five words of your URL. The easiest way to do it is by putting your keyword at the beginning of your post's title. Put your keyword in the title: A study done by Moz.com showed that web pages that have keywords at the beginning of the title tag rank better than web pages that don't.

Proper Silo Structure: In order to rank well, websites that are created today, especially if they are large, need to have a proper silo structure. A silo simply references the categories by which all of your posts are made each day. Each silo must represent a particular subcomponent of the primary niche you are targeting. The articles that you post should not only be unique in every way, but must adhere to the confines of the silo itself. An example of this would be creating a weight-loss site, and having a specific category called dieting.

Link to related relevant authority websites: An outbound link helps the search engines to determine exactly what your content is all about. So, if you have a website that sells bicycles, link to a page on Wikipedia about bicycles. Put your keyword in the first 100 words: You should put your keywords in the first 100 to 150 words of your blog post. Putting your keyword early in your content complements the title tag perfectly.

Although there are some debates in regard to interlinking within a silo structured website, in most cases, it is appropriate to link back to your primary page. This will help pass link juice to the homepage, and will also help Google and other search engines recognize what your website is about. These strategies should help you improve your overall search engine rankings for not only the main page, but all of the sub pages when using a silo structure.
